With schools and nurseries being closed, and lockdown now in effect, parents are faced with the daunting prospect of keeping their kids entertained for hours on end.
On Wednesday 25 March Joan James from the ‘Faith Healing’ congregation at Blue Roof, broke this monotony by assembling a few kids at the k1 centre for treats, song and prayer. The highlight, however was the gift box from Operation Christmas Child which each child received.
Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a project of Samaritan’s Purse. It partners with local churches in developing nations to reach out to children by providing gift-filled shoeboxes and bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Samaritan’s Purse is an evangelical Christian humanitarian aid organisation that provides aid to people, as a key part of Christian missionary work. The organisation’s president is Franklin Graham, son of Christian evangelist Billy Graham. The name of this organisation is based on the New Testament Parable of the Good Samaritan, in which Jesus uses a parable to teach people one form of the Golden Rule; “love your neighbor as yourself”.
Samaritan’s Purse works in more than 100 countries around the world. The international headquarters of Samaritan’s Purse are in Boone, North Carolina, with additional U.S. facilities in Charlotte and North Wilkesboro.
This gift shoebox Includes something from each of the 6 categories; clothes, toys , stationery, something to love, something special, and toiletries.
Joan iterated; “Children won’t develop their own appetites for Scripture by taking the occasional bite from our plate. They need their own generous portions from God’s word, which is why i teach them the daily habit of reading God’s word”
